In 1990, while living in Hawaii, Raghunatha published several issues of"A confidential Report: The Hare Krishna Kids!" The first issue of the newsletter to his peers was 24 pages of correspondence he had received from thirteen friends, photocopied and stapled on the side. His stated purpose: "Tohave a newsletter which will inform us to the whereabouts of our friends and what they're doing." The first gurukula reunion took place in 1990, so it was the beginning of thesecond generation's healing and reuniting to tell their story. In one of those issues, Raghunatha published "Children of the Ashrama," his account of the abuse he sufferedin the gurukula system, written as a letter to a friend. It marked the first time agurukula survivor told the story in print. For more, see Children of the Ashrama.
The newsletter stopped for several years, then "As It Is: The Voice of the Second Generation" began publication under the auspices of Gurukula Alumni, Inc., in Los Angeles.Raghunatha was an editor on the first issue. The other editors were Bahulasva, Chaits and Manu, three gurukula alumni. Three issues of "As It Is" had full color, glossy covers (seen above). After "As It Is" quit coming out, Manu later revived it as "Spirit: Not this Body." Manu now works as the second generation's representativeto the GBC.
