The History of the Geckos
![]() |
![]() | Kevin Martin(Martini) and Mike Miller(White Sauce) met in 1987 living at the beach and played our first show together at a St. Patricks Day party in 1991 in a trio called The Flying Gecko Orchestra with John Rezai on keyboards, though the first public appearance was at a bar in Ocean City called "Rosco's Reef." In 1992 we became The Geckos, an acoustic duo. During that summer we met Dan Sacharoff (DanO). He was the chef at ATLantics where we were playing every Wednsday. He mentioned that he used to play and one night he brought his guitar and sat in. The rest of the summer he would come to wherever we were playing after he got off work and join in the last set with us. In 1993 we became a trio of guitars and DanO quit cooking. That summer Ryan Diehl happened to be in Ocean City playing with Angie Miller and was staying at a hotel where we were playing. Mike Miller and Ryan went to Towson State together. Ryan had the next afternoon off and we booked him to play The Angler1s Booze Cruize with us. |
![]() | After that Ryan started playing a few days a week with us and we became a quartet with three guitars and a drummer. There was a short lived effort to make Kevin the bass guitarist player (no dice). In the winter of '94 Dana Biagini started playing with us after his group Hussy broke up. That was the last piece of the puzzle and the line-up for the first CD in the fall of 1995: DanO, Dana, Kevin, Mike and Ryan. Dana joined the group Underfoot with Brian Wagner and Noel White and spent most of the time on the road while DanO and Ryan juggled full music schedules and played with us when they could. When they couldn1t other members of the extended Gecko family did. Over the years, dozens of musicians have played with us on different gigs including; Mike Kelly, Dan Hope, Craig Carr, Tom Sabia, Mike Aubin, Mark Terrence, Noel White, Rich King, John Nickols, Larry Melton, Steve Cyphers, Dean Rosenthal and many others. Chuck Karner has been playing most shows on drums now and Chuck Young and Steve Potter have been playing bass though Dana still plays now & then. Dano O is back full time and occasionally we team up with his fiery rhythm section from Night Train Curtis Krams and John Nichols. 850 shows later we're in the studio recording our second full CD and having a hell of a lot of fun. Come out and join the party sometime... |
